There are several important pricing updates this week.
Baking powder has increased from $1.48 to $1.56 per 8.1 ounce can, a 5.5% increase. A few months ago, this product was $1.12.
Brown eggs decreased from $4.17 to $3.68, an 11.7% decrease, while white eggs INCREASED from $2.34 to $3.47, a 48% increase.
Great Value flour in 10lb bags went from $3.64 to $3.98, a 9.3% increase. Five-pound and 25 lb bags also increased in price. In May of this year, the 10 pound bag was $3.00.
Great Value Tuna 4-packs of 5 ounce cans is back in stock and has gone from $2.98 to $3.14, a 5.4% increase.
The Great Value five-pound bags of corn meal continue to be out of stock.
64 ounce jars of peanut butter continue to be out of stock.
Beef is still reasonably priced locally. Top round and bottom round are $3.69-$3.99 per pound. Ground beef is $2.99/lb (73%) to $3.99/lb (81%).
Chicken is still high. Thighs cost more than breasts did 7 months ago. The one exception is a local grocery store who is selling chicken leg quarters for 69 cents/pound.
Food to watch includes turkey. With Thanksgiving approaching, two articles I read have said that there is an “epic” turkey shortage, due mostly to large-scale slaughtering of flocks because of avian flu fears.
