  • 1 1/2 cups warm water

Instructions:

Microwave Bread:

While microwaving bread may not yield the same texture as traditional oven-baked bread, and it may not be appropriate in a grid-down situation, it’s a quick and curious method for enjoying fresh bread. Here’s a recipe to try:

Microwave English Muffin Bread:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

Boiled Bagels:

  • 1 packet instant yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, mix together warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for 10 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  4. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
  5. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball.
  6. Flatten each ball slightly and use your finger to poke a hole in the center.
  7. Stretch the hole and shape the dough into a bagel.
  8. In a large pot, bring 8 cups of water to a boil and add baking soda.
